Allergy Partners Encasings: Care Instructions

Linens, blankets and other non-encased bedding items should be washed weekly in hot water or with an allergen-removing laundry product.  By contrast, encasings need only be washed once a year or when soiled. This recommendation is especially true for your mattress encasing, however, you may wish to wash pillow encasings more frequently due to contact with oils from your skin. Since the box spring encasing is not exposed to body oils or sweat, it is acceptable to only remove and wash these encasings if soiled. The surface of all encasings should be vacuumed regularly to remove allergens that build up on the exterior of the fabric.

Additional Care Instructions for Bed Bug Protection:

The best way to protect your mattress and bedding from bed bug infestation is to take the preventative step of encasing bedding before any threat of bed bugs occurs in your home. Bed bugs can be contained to inside your encasing as long as the encasement has been tested and proven to be bed bug certified. If you have an existing bed bug problem, do not remove the encasing for at least 18 months. Bed bugs are able to lie dormant for up to 18 months. If encasings are removed too early, they could become a problem once again. Bed bugs feed off humans and can infest other areas of your home.  Removing them completely will likely require additional measures and/or treatments from professional service companies.
